We’ve always loved baking together and kept coming up with weird and wonderful concoctions for cake recipes. Then finally when we decided to become vegan we faced a serious dilemma… how can we go vegan and still eat our favorite baked goodies?
So we decided to find vegan cake mixes and see what was out there and realized there really wasn’t a whole lot of choice for vegans. So we decided to create our own vegan cupcakes to fix that.
Deb and Lucas met on Myspace 8 years ago by accident, Deb was traveling around the world at the time and went to Portland to meet Lucas, he immediately baked everything under the sun for her and they soon fell in love and moved to Australia together and started their bakery-baby, Mister Nice Guys.
Eight years later, they have a super-awesome business, incredible staff and a one year old who loves donuts.
Mister Nice Guy’s started 6 years ago and was meant to be… “we started working the midnight shift at Lentils as Anything, one day we were having breakfast there and were talking about how great it would be to use Lentil’s kitchen to bake vegan cupcakes in to sell at markets and instead of rent we could provide Lentil’s with cakes. Then a few minutes later we overheard the chef and the owner talking about how they needed a baker, we used this opportunity and went up to Shanika the owner and proposed the idea, they said yes on the spot, a few days later Lucas was baking in their kitchen and our business started”.
